High Rise Buildings
Most of the building codes are based on empirical information and previous experience. With the increasing height of buildings it becomes essential to study the design parameters of buildings using more sophisticated tools. The problems encountered are wind loads on the building and its effect on structural strength, foundation strength, natural and forced ventilation, effect of fire and spreading of smoke etc. The results of these studies affect the design of building management system.
ZN has various capabilities in this sector ranging from:
Effect of chimney exhaust on high rise buildings
ZN simulated India's tallest building for ventilation and fire safety studies. Data of wind velocity for various seasons was collected from the MET department and extreme cases for the seasons were collected. Simulations were done to find out the load on the buildings, discomfort for the residents due to higher velocity or vortices as per comfort charts. After suggesting some areas where discomfort may happen, ZN simulated the building for fire and found places of reduced visibility. This helped in locating the smoke detectors. Fan capacities were estimated to extract the smoke in reasonable time. In other case fire compartmentalization and effect of water sprinkler has been studied. Image shows the effect of nearby chimney exhaust on high rise building.
