Five-day Workshop on
Computer
Aided Engineering for Marine
Engineering
May 12th
to 17th, 2008 at
Indian Institute of Technology,
Kharagpur
Zeus
Numerix, Mumbai
and Indian
Institute of Technology,
Kharagpur are
jointly organizing
a 5 day workshop on “Computer
Aided Engineering for Marine
Engineering”
at Dept of Ocean Engg and Naval
Architecture IIT Kharagpur.
The workshop and training program
is intended for the persons
from R & D Organizations,
design and development engineers
from industries and consultants
in the marine industry. The
course will also be useful for
R&D Managers who wish to
introduce CAE in their organization.
Faculty/students from universities
desirous to undertake CAE based
investigations may also find
this course useful.
The
workshop will have introductory
lectures and use of the corresponding
technology in the morning on
the following topics:
- Fluid
dynamics
- Stress
analysis
-
Electromagnetics
-
Corrosion engineering
-
Ship dynamics
-
High Performance Computing
An appropriate lecture on computer
aided engineering will be followed
by a demonstration in the afternoon.
The
ability to simulate real life
problems and scenarios is the
essence of CAE. CAE consists
on a suite of software for each
with its own goal. Computational
Fluid Dynamics can simulate
motion of ship and predict the
drag and help predict the dynamics
of its motion. Computational
electromagnetics can predict
the visibility of ship to radar.
Simulation of electrostatics
can predict the corrosion rates
and help in reducing it. Computational
structural mechanics helps in
predicting the failure of hulls
and optimizing the ship for
its weight, etc. On the whole,
CAE helps designers and operators
in understanding of the physical
and chemical processes that
matter in design, production
and operations of marine vessels.
The
present course aims at training
the participants in all these
simulation techniques such that
participant can plan for an
integrated design process in
his organization. Training in
utilization of HPC will enable
him to solve large real life
problems.
