Workshop on “Finite Element Method for Antenna Electromagnetics Applications”
Space Applications Centre (SAC) is a leading space sciences laboratory with state of the art research in satellite systems. Space based antenna are a vital system being designed in SAC by the Antenna research group.

As in all fields of engineering, simulations have become very important in prediction of electromagnetic performance of Antenna. Many numerical simulation methods are used for this purpose ranging from empirical to complex partial differential equations. Zeus Numerix has capability in simulation of complex electromagnetic problems using Finite Element Method (FEM). SAC after assessing the capability chose Zeus Numerix to provide a workshop to its scientists in the field of computational electromagnetics using FEM Methods.

The workshop was proposed to run in two modules of three days each. The first module was from 9th – 11th June 2010 and the second one from 14th – 16th July 2010. The course focussed on the techniques used in FEM for simulation of Antenna electromagnetic problems. To make the training more broad based the sessions were divided such that the pre-lunch sessions were mathematical while the post lunch were case studies and analysis of results. Pre-lunch sessions were being taken by IIT Bombay faculty. Lectures were taken by Prof RPRC Aiyar, CRNTS IIT Bombay and Prof S V Kulkarni, Electrical Engg IIT Bombay.

The course was inaugurated by Dr Navalgund, Honorable Director SAC who wished luck to the participants and expressed surprise over the volume of lecture material supplied to participants. The second module of the workshop had faculty from IIT Bombay namely, Prof RPRC Aiyar, Prof Harish Pillai and Prof G R Shevare.

This workshop was conceived by Mr Rajeev Jyoti, Group Head, SAC and has been conducted through the Human Resource department of SAC with kind help from Mr K Ravishankar.
